From a Kitchen Table to Three Cafés

Malone Specialty Coffee started at a kitchen table in 2013 with a simple idea: find coffee worth drinking without anything to hide behind. Based in Austin, Texas, we search out coffees with unique and memorable flavor notes, roasting every batch on our vintage Diedrich drum roaster at our Wells Branch Roastery & Café in North Austin. Twelve years later, we're still chasing that same perfect cup.

In 2013, Paul and Donna Malone were ready to get back to their morning routine of sharing coffee together after the birth of their second son. The problem was the coffee they were drinking needed sugar and cream just to be enjoyable. Determined to improve their coffee experience, Paul began experimenting with different beans and brewing methods, though the results only brought small improvements. After months of research, Paul decided to begin roasting coffee at home, learning that coffee reaches peak flavor and aroma within two weeks of roasting. The very first batch produced the best cup they had ever tasted. The next batch was terrible — but they knew they were onto something.

From Trailers to a Real Roastery

Two years and thousands of roasts later, Malone Coffee officially launched. What began with bags sold to friends, neighbors, and local farmers markets quickly grew into coffee trailers across Austin. In 2017, Paul left his corporate job to focus fully on Malone Coffee — a major leap that helped turn a passion project into a growing business. By the end of 2018, Malone Coffee had expanded to three trailers throughout Austin, and in 2019, we opened our Wells Branch Roastery & Café to the public. In 2020, we launched our catering division, bringing fresh roasted coffee to events, corporate meetings, and gatherings across the Austin area.

How We Roast

Every bag is roasted to order on our vintage Diedrich drum roaster because coffee is at its absolute best shortly after roasting. We sample-roast dozens of specialty-grade beans, from Ethiopia single-origins to our signature Cold Brew Blend, always searching for coffees with rich, distinctive flavor.

We built our cafés for lingering — there's a chess table, a Pac-Man machine, board games stacked on shelves, and a kids' area that makes families feel genuinely at home. Our baristas know regulars by name, and we think that's not a small thing.

Three Locations, One Mission

From our Wells Branch roastery, Malone Specialty Coffee has grown into locations in Round Rock and Cedar Park, each with its own personality but rooted in the same belief: coffee should taste so good you can drink it black. Across all three Austin-area locations, we serve signature lattes, espresso drinks, drip coffee, nitro cold brew, butter coffee, breakfast sandwiches, smoothies, bagels, and muffins. Some customer favorites include our Nitro Cold Brew, single-origin drip brews, the Austin Dream mocha, and the Southside Caramel latte infused with cinnamon caramel flavors. Whether you're visiting one of our cafés or ordering fresh roasted coffee shipped directly to your door, we’re grateful to share what we love with our community.
